Hernando de Soto was born in Badajoz, Spain around 1496-1500. He died in June, 1542 because of a fever and was buried on the banks of the Mississippi. He wanted to explore for gold and he was searching for a passage to China. He was married to Ines de Bobadilla (sometimes called Leonor or Isabel) and had no children. He had sold all his possessions to buy equipment for the trip. He started off as captain of a bunch of horsemen, but the governor of Darien liked his courage. So Hernando De Soto was part of the conquest of America and taking over Inca empire. He killed the ruler of the Inca's. Hernando De Soto's belief was Roman Catholic. He explored Southeastern America. Followers of the Choctaw leader Tuscaloosa attacked Hernando De Soto's army. He took 600 men but only 331 survived and he also took 200 horses.
The city Havana was burned and robbed by the french and De Soto wanted to repair it. He sent Captain Aceituno with some men to repair the city. De Soto wanted to start his conquest of Florida early so he gave Gonzalo de Guzman the job of govenor of Santiago and gave full powers to his wife.
